题名: Thermal analysis study of (S)-ibuprofen and starch mixyures using thermogravimetry

摘要: The objectives of the present study were: (ⅰ) to study the effect of starch on the thermal treatment of (S)-ibuprofen, (ⅱ) to see if there was any reactivity between the (S)-ibuprofen and the starch, (ⅲ) to confirm if TG could be used as an analytical tool in the binary mixtures of (S)-ibuprofen and starch. The thermal behavior of (S)-ibuprofen, starch and their mixtures was studied by thermogravimetry. The equipment was Setsys-16/18 made in Setaram Company. The thermal analysis experiments were performed between ambient and 873 K. A heating rate was 10 K min-1. A purge gas was flowing dry nitrogen (99.9% purity) at a rate of 30 mL min-1. Typical TG and DTG plots for (S)-ibuprofen, starch and their mixture are shown Fig.1. The results indicated that the DTG peak temperatures for (S)-ibuprofen evaporation and for starch degradation increase as the percentage of (S)-ibuprofen increased. This is interesting as it shows that (S)-ibuprofen, which has disappeared by the time the starch degrades, has had some effect on the subsequent starch degradation. It can be speculated that the suspension of the starch in the liquid (S)-ibuprofen is aggregated by the evaporation process rendering it less active and that aggregation is enhanced if the original concentration of starch is kept low. The plots of percentage (S)-ibuprofen in the (S)-ibuprofen-starch mixture against the DTG peak height and peak area are shown in Fig.2. It can be seen that the DTG plots provide data in terms of peak height for the (S)-ibuprofen evaporation can be used for analytical purposes.
