AbstractThe molar heat capacities of the room temperature ionic liquid EMISE were measured by an adiabatic calorimeter in temperature range from 80 to 354K as shown in Fig. 1, and no thermal anomaly was observed or no phase transition took place in temperature range for solid from 80 K to 174 K, in the temperature range for glass state from 181 K to 230 K and for liquid from 256 K to 354 K, respectively. The dependence of the molar heat capacity on temperature is given as a function of the reduced temperature X by empirical equations. For 80—174 K CP,m = 177.6 + 47.45X + 2.330X2 + 0.3640X3 + 1.529X4 (J•K-1•mol-1) (1) And for 181—230 K CP,m = 376.7 + 11.45X - 1.398X2 + 0.08100X3 + 1.608X4 (J•K-1•mol-1) (2) And for 256—354 K CP,m = 404.9 + 14.61X + 1.221X2 (J•K-1•mol-1) (3) . According the empirical equation and thermodynamic relationship, the values of thermodynamic function of the EMISE relative to 298.15 K were calculated in the temperature 255~350 K with 5 K intervals. The glass translation of EMISE occurred at 177.65 K, the enthalpy and entropy of the glass transition were calculated to beΔHg= 732.9 Jmol-1 andΔSg= 4.126 JK-1mol-1, respectively. The result showed that the milting point of the EMISE is 251.07 K. The molar heat and entropy of fusion were calculated to be ΔHm = 1348Jmol-1 and ΔSm = 5.369 JK-1mol-1.
