摘要: This pesentation overviews the recent research activities in catalyst design and catalytic processes for space propulsion in China. 1. New catalysts for hydrazine decomposition Hydrazine monopropellant propulsion system offers many advantages for aircraft orbit transfer and attitude control due to its technical simplicity, high reliability, and relative stability under normal storage. As the unique scientific research center of hydrazine decomposition catalyst in China, our laboratory has made a great deal of fundamental studies on catalytic decomposition of hydrazine and developed many types of hydrazine decomposition catalysts, which have been widely used in propulsion system of satellites, launch vehicles and SHENZHOU spaceships in China. In recent years, our research on hydrazine decomposition catalyst focuses on the development of new catalyst systems, such as transition metal nitride, carbide and phosphide. 2.Catalysts and catalytic decompositions of green propellants More recently, interest in green propellants has greatly increased for the sake of enhancing safety and reducing costs for aerospace propulsion systems. Hydrogen peroxide, presenting a number of important potential benefits, such as high density specific impulse, long-term storage capability and low toxicity, is regarded as one of the best replacement of hydrazine propellant for on-orbit propulsion systems of spacecrafts. The current studies of our laboratory are primarily focused on the catalytic decomposition of hydrogen peroxide. A series of catalysts in the form of particle, screen, monolith and homogeneous style have been developed. Besides hydrogen peroxide, our research interests also cover nitrous oxide, HAN-based (hydroxyl ammonium nitrate) propellants, as well as hydrazine nitrate propellant systems. To better understand the catalytic decomposition processes of green propellants, great emphases are also paid on characterization of catalysts by combining different physical methods.
