题名: Aqueous synthesis of iridium-containing ordered mesoporous carbon material by organic assembly

摘要: Carbon materials with ordered mesoporous structure have been attracting much attention due to their controlled porosity, high surface area and electrical conductivity, which make them promising materials for application in seperation, catalysis and energy storage. In particular, metal-containing mesoporous carbon material is considered as an interesting catalyst for the active metal component can be highly dispersed into the carbon matrix and the mesoporous structure facilitate the mass transfer when compared with those microporous carbon materials. Herein, we report the synthesis of highly ordered iridium-containing mesoporous carbon structures based on self-assembly approach. In this synthesis, a mixture of resorcinol and formaldehyde was used as the carbon precursor and triblock copolymer (Pluronic F127, EO106PO70EO106) as a structure-directing agent, while H2IrCl6 and HCl were used together as the catalyst for the condensation reaction between resorcinol and formaldehyde. After reaction, the resulting polymer containing Ir species was carbonized at 800oC to yield highly ordered Ir-containing mesoporous carbon. N2-adsorption shows that the material has a specfic surface area of 714 m2/g and a narrow pore size distribution centered at 5.2 nm. TEM reveals that the material is composed of highly ordered hexagonal mesostructure and the Ir particles are highly dispersed and confined into the mesopores with a uniform particle size of 3~4 nm. The XRD examination confirms the metallic Ir nature in the mesoporous carbon structure. This Ir-containing mesoporous carbon material was tested as a catalyst for N2H4 decomposition which has widespread applications in attitude control and manoeuvre of spacecrafts. The results demonstrate that N2H4 can be completely decomposed at 30oC over this catalyst and a 360min-run shows no any drop in the activity. Taking into account the fast and volume-expanding nature of this exthermic reaction, the mesoporous structure of the Ir-containing carbon will be superior to the microporous ones in terms of mass transfer.
