AbstractWith Co(OAc)2 as Co source and hexadecylamine (HDA) as template, cobalt-containing hexagonal mesoporous silicas (Co-HMS) was successfully synthesized by a one-step co-condensation route at ambient temperature. Co2+ ions are incorporated into the frameworks in tetrahedral coordination while maintaining the mesoporous structure as confirmed by XRD, N2 adsorption-desorption measurement, TEM and UV-Vis spectroscopic study. Two different methods (calcination and solvent extraction) were utilized to remove the template molecules, and the latter was found to be the better one for catalytic performance. Compared with Co(OAc)2, which is widely used in the present industrial process, the resultant materials showed higher activity in the liquid-phase oxidation of cyclohexane.
