摘要: Each chemical event in the catalytic cycle (adsorption, reaction and desorption) involves the formation and/or transformation of chemical bonds with solid surfaces. The energetics of these surface chemical bonds determine the catalytic properties of the surface. Determination of these strengths directly during the catalytic processes is therefore of interest for understanding catalyst properties and the surface chemistry of heterogeneous catalytic transformations. In this paper, an in-situ calorimetric method for measuring the strength of the formation and/or transformation of chemical bonds directly, as well as the corresponding adsorption/reaction amounts during the catalytic processes by combining a heat-flux microcalorimeter with a pulse micro-reactive system was established. This method was employed to study the surface reaction processes in situ during CO oxidation reaction on an Ir-in-CeO2 catalyst (Ir encapsulated by CeO2), which exhibits high activity and selectivity for preferential CO oxidation.The higher CO2 yield with the lower evolved heat suggests that encapsulating Ir into CeO2 promotes the carbonates decomposition on the catalyst surface by the feasible transformation between Ce3+ and Ce4+.
