AbstractThe formation of H2O2 from H2 and O2 was studied in a Pd membrane reactor between 303-348 K. The H2O2 formation rate increased with temperature, H2 feed pressure, and also increasing O2 feed rate up to 150 ml·min-1. The higher H2O2 formation rate at elevated temperatures despite increasing H2O2 decomposition is attributed to the larger H2 permeation flux through the membrane. Concentrations as high as 100 mmol H2O2 per m2 membrane area were achieved after 1 h on stream at 350 kPa H2 feed pressure and 348 K. Even larger H2O2 concentrations appear to be feasible by operating at higher H2 pressures. During the whole experiment no H2 was detected at the outlet of the apparatus, indicating that it had been completely consumed.
