AbstractThe highly efficient heterogeneous catalysts of Ru-fluorapatite (RuFAp), Ru-chlorapatite (RuClAp) and Ru-bromapatite (RuBrAp) were newly synthesized by chemical precipitation and ion-exchange methods. The transmission electron microscopy showed that these catalysts had rod-like morphology. The X-ray diffraction and Fourier infrared spectroscopy results demonstrated that their crystal phases were isostructural with the precursor of hydroxyapatite (HAp). The RuFAp and RuClAp exhibits superior catalytic activity for the oxidation of benzyl alcohol using molecular oxygen as oxidant. In comparison with RuHAp, the existence of F, Cl and Br elements facilitated the catalytic activity. The particular order of activity was obtained as Cl, F > Br > OH. The influence on the different amounts of F substitution was also included in the context.
