Direct catalytic conversion cellulose into ethylene glycol over bimetallic catalysts

英文摘要A series of metallic catalysts were evaluated in the catalytic conversion of cellulose in the aqueous condition and hydrogen atmosphere. The group-VIII metal doped bimetallic catalysts Pt-W/AC, Pd-W/AC, Ir-W/AC, Ru-W/AC, Ni-W/SiC and Ni-W/SBA-15 were found to be very efficient for the EG production. Compared to the monometallic catalysts Ni/AC, Pt/AC, Ir/AC, Pd/AC, Ru/AC, and W/AC, the significantly higher EG yields over the bimetallic catalysts demonstrated synergetic effects between W and the group-VIII metals. Even with the mechanically mixed Ni/AC and W/AC catalysts, a high EG yield was achieved. Combined with various characterizations, the results strongly suggest that the EG production from catalytic conversion of cellulose most likely proceeds via a bi-functional mechanism over the tungsten based catalysts.
