题名: Hierarchical Fe/ZSM-5 with improved catalytic performance in hydroxylation of benzene with nitrous oxide

摘要: Fe/ZSM-5 zeolite catalysts are promising for the production of adipic acid using nitrous oxide, which is a by-product in industry. Compared with the environmentally stressing three step cumene process, Fe/ZSM-5 based catalytic system is green and atom efficient. However, the rapid deactivation of Fe/ZSM-5 mainly caused by coke formation is one of the problems in the commercialization of this process. The micropore of Fe/ZSM-5 is supposed to be unfavorable for the desorption of phenol, which will accelerate the coke formation. Mesoporous zeolites have shown promising application potentials due to their improved cataltytic performance because of the fast mass transport. As far as we know there are no reports on the synthesis of mesoporous Fe/ZSM-5 in the application of hydroxylation of benzene with nitrous oxide as an oxidant. Here, we present the one-pot synthesis of mesoporous Fe/ZSM-5 using [3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl] octadecyldimethylammonium chloride as surfactant. As shown in Fig. 1(1), the nitrogen sorption isotherms show that mesoFe/ZSM-5-S has higher mesoporous volume than the microporous one, Fe/ZSM-5-S, and the extracted mesoFe/ZSM-5-ES has higher mesoporous volume than the unextracted one, mesoFe/ZSM-5-S. Correspondingly, in the hydroxylation of benzene with nitrous oxide, Fig. 1(2) shows that the deactivation due to the coke formation after 24 h of reaction decreases in the order of Fe/ZSM-5-S>mesoFe/ZSM-5-S>mesoFe/ZSM-5-ES. The SEM image (Fig. 2) shows uniform sphere-like morphology for mesoFe/ZSM-5-ES. Mesoporous Fe/ZSM-5 zeolites were successfully synthesized and exhibited much better catalytic activity and remarkably slower deactivation in the oxidation of benzene to phenol, compared with microporous Fe/ZSM-5.
