AbstractIt is well known that the porous structures of zeolites are very crucial for their shape selectivity in catalytic reactions. In this study, one- and two-dimensional hyperpolarized 129Xe NMR spectroscopy has been used to investigate the porosity of catalytic materials, such as the identification of mesopores in TS-1/TiHMS micro/mesoporous composites and mesoporous ZSM-5 zeolites, the connectivity of pores in co-crystallized MCM-49/ZSM-35 zeolites, etc. The distribution of catalyst in the support can also be detected. Examples are illustrated by metallic Ga in MCM-41 and MoO3 in HBeta zeolite and alumina composite support. Additionally, the adsorption and reaction kinetics of methanol in CHA zeolites can be traced by variable-temperature measurements. This approach is also extended to study the diffusion kinetics of methanol in single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs).
