AbstractProperties of oxygen vacancy and carbonates were comparatively studied over noble metals ( Ir, Pt, Au) modified CeO2 catalysts and correlated with the performances of CO oxidation. The formation of oxygen vacancy was affected by the metals’ work function, and the adsorption strengths of carbonates were as follows: Ir-CeO2 (144 kJ/mol)>Pt-CeO2 (121 kJ/mol)>Au-CeO2 (93 kJ/mol). By analyzing the transient processes and the heat evolved with CO+O2 pulses, the evolution of CO oxidation was found intimately related with the amount of oxygen vacancy and further with the different adsorption strength of carbonates.
