AbstractElectrolyte, electrode, bipolar plate and ion exchange membrane are the key materials of vanadium redox flow battery (VRB). Challenges to VRB commercialization mainly include low energy density, permeation of vanadium ions and water through the membrane, low current density and high cost, which are mostly determined by materials used. Aiming to solve the problems limiting the VRB practicability, the R&D of materials used in VRB is focused.
