The effects of both sulfur levels in diesel exhaust gases and the material used to support a Pt catalyst on its activity for the soot oxidation were investigated. The activity was confirmed as increasing as the sulfur content of the fuel increased. As for the support material, TiO2 derived from Ti(SO4)(2) or a TiO2 colloidal-sol showed a relatively high activity.
