AbstractThe differential heats of CO adsorption measured by microcalorimetry have been used to probe surface adsorption sites presented on carbon black (XC72R) supported Pt, Ru and bimetallic PtRu catalysts. These results indicate that the monometallic Pt catalyst shows the highest initial differential heat of CO adsorption (125 kJ . mol(-1)) and the monometallic Ru catalyst displays the lowest one (109 kJ . mol(-1)). Three kinds of bimetallic catalysts with atomic ratios of Pt to Ru, 2:1, 1:1 and 1: 2, have initial differential heats of CO adsorption (124 similar to 112 kJ . mol(-1)) beriveen those of monometallic Pt and monometallic Ru catalyst. The strong Pt surface sites of CO adsorption were completely covered by Ru atoms in the case of the bimetallic catalyst with atomic ratio of Pt to Ru of 1:2.
