英文摘要A direct simulation Monte Carlo method is used to study the effect of spillover on reaction kinetics. Two spillover models were considered: (1) surface diffusion via the hopping of adsorbed molecules, and (2) surface migration via hopping of weakly adsorbed precursors above the layer of adsorbed molecules. Spillover retards the reaction when the surface coverage of the spiltover species is high, but it accelerates the reaction when this surface coverage is low. Spillover also results in small but discernible changes in measured apparent activation energies and heats of adsorption. The effect of spillover is more pronounced in the mechanism where the diffusing species is a weakly adsorbed precursor than when the diffusing species is the adsorbed species themselves.
