AbstractZwitterionic vesicles with AuCl4- counterions were fabricated for the first time as the soft templates for colloidal synthesis of gold nanostructures; gold nanoplates spontaneously generated at the vesicle bilayers were observed and gold nanospheres were achieved via a stepwise reduction approach.
